2003-2006 TJ Taillight Covers?

My lovely girlfriend got me taillight covers for my '06 TJ for Christmas and on Quadratec's website it says something about possibly having to modify something with the 2003-2006 TJ. Does anyone have these and know what the problem/solution is? They're the Rugged Ridge covers with the horizontal bars on it.

Thanks

No. But I'm guessing if you try fitting one on, you'll be able to figure out if there is a mod that's needed, and just what it is...

They fit on with ease. There was no problem or anything after I put them on. The tailgate still opens effortlessly and everything is a-okay.

One thing you need to do is create a better ground for the taillights. There have been many posts where TJ lights have been erratic and the reason is the taillights lose their groung because of the addition of these covers.

You mean like these....
(on the Jeep, not the toy)

I did nothing for making a better ground and my lights have been working fine.
The only problem I did have, with my '04 LJ having the plastic covers over the tail gate hinge, was the cover slightly rubbing the top bar of the light guard.

A little persuasion on that bar and all is well.

There was a thread somewhere about a guy that put these on and backed into a tree. Well the $15 tailight was protected but it tore the tub around the light mount. I would rather change the lens then pay the body man. But then I flush mounted mine so it's a moot point for me.

They are talking about the ground. A lot of times the circuit does not complete with these. I had the exact same problem when I put mine on. They come from China, so that will explain everything. Be very aware when you put them on not to strip the holes out. It is extremely easy to do. Happened to me too, I had to go buy different screws to make it work

Yep, taillight is grounded by the screws holding it to the tub. Many people have problems with the screws supplied with the kit and therefore electrical grounding problems. A good idea is get some stainless nuts and bolts to re-secure everything.

X2... Forgot to say that's what I did.
As for backing into a tree or whatever and causing more damage..... Use some common sence while wheelin' and it shouldn't be a problem.
Then again... good excuse for adding corner armor as well as the light guards!!
