2003 TJ, gas milage, gearing etc.. help??

So I just bought a 2003 TJ with 4 inch lift, 33 12.50 15's, has a 8000 pnd winch on the front and upgraded bumpers. has about 38000 miles on it. Im pretty sure its got the dana 35 axles cause the back diff cover has the little rubber plug, but i have no clue what gears are in there??
Trying to figure out what kind of gas milage i will get, as of right now not looking good, seems to be sucking the gas like crazy, just under 3/4's of a tank and only 70 miles, but maybe the top of the tank goes alot quicker than the rest?? can someone shed light?? Also being that its a 2003 how can I do a tune up per say, it doest have cap, rotor, coil, etc.. so i cant replace those, but what would be some good things to do to the motor to help make sure its running with peak performance? I would have thought with only 38000 miles it would still run like brand new?? thoughts, ideas,

Look at the axles alittle closer. You should have a little plate held on by two of the diff cover bolts. It should give you the number your looking for. Funny thing I just went to confirm my gearing yesterday. The plate will be real dirty, just clean it off and try to find the 3 digit number. I also have a '03 with the dana 35 rear and have 3.73 gearing.

Also after reading a lot of the "What mileage do you get" threads, most people said that the first quarter goes fast, so the top could be tapered. I need to remove mine soon so I can put in the "optional" bolts for my rear bumper.

Mine has little under 60k and runs great! Just changed the oil in both differentials and due to change the oil in the transmission , and transfer case. You shouldn't be worried about the 4.0L with only 38k on it. Give it an oil change, and new air filter to start it off knowing that they are done. Clean the engine off with some simple green then lube up moving parts. Rinse out the radiator, it is so hard to get all the mud out of there after a fun weekend.

Though what did the previous owner use it for? An '03 with low mileage, lift, big tires, and a winch. Either for show or he used it hard. Sure you already checked that it goes into 4H and 4L without any weird noises. Check the undercarriage as he might have scraped some paint off the bottom revealing fresh metal that could turn to rust.

Welcome to the forum and have fun with your new toy! Oh and post some pics or it never happened.

jeep

Will try and post pics tonight, the owner before me was a good friend of mine, it only went off road one time at gray rock, before that it was towed behind a motor home to different states so they would have transportation whereever they went. On the trip to gray rock, they broke one of the rear axles so he sent to 4 wheel parts and had new 33% stronger axles put in, a locker, and a lift, wheels, etc.... then about 3 or 4 months later i got it. I dont think its been abused, but does appear to be sucking gas, and does need some TLC, plan to paint some things on the bottem, Install a liner in the cab, stereo and speakers, and new front and rear diff covers. I also plan to do complete oil changes through out, but want to order the new covers before hand so i can do everything at once.
