This is what I would do:
1) Double check all vacuum lines and intake system connection points
2) pull off the throttle body and clean it out REALLY good (not sure about the 2.4 but if it has an IAC port like the 2.5/4.0 clean that out really good as well)
If that doesn't make any difference
3) pull injectors and clean the nozzles
The fact that it fires up leaves me to believe that it's most likely a severe vacuum leak somewhere (if it was fuel or spark related, it wouldn't fire and run at all).
What modifications have you done to the engine if any, and how many miles are on it?
Does it have a mass air flow sensor? I know that if they get the smallest bit of dirt on them they can make the car act like that. My mustang 06 mustang did that to me and I sprayed the mass air flow with brake clean and it fired up and ran. Hasn't shut off on me yet after months. Just a thought...
After it starts try keeping it running by giving it gas with the skinny pedal.
If that doesn’t work it is possible the PCM may not be holding the ASD relay closed which it does by grounding the relay coil. Same for the fuel pump relay.
Does an amber key silhouette show up on the instrument cluster when the engine dies?
