3" Body Lift Cut - 4WD Problems

Bought my Jeep with a 3" BL on it and finally got my 4" Suspension Lift in so cut 3" BL in half yesterday in hopes of putting in the 4" lift in a few weeks. All went well except when I tested 4WD it went into 4HI like butter but when I tried for 4LO it was stiff. I decided to just go back to 2WD and modify the bracket installed with the 3" BL rather than forcing it but it got stuck in 4HI even in the 2WD position.

So, now I am not sure exactly the angle I should have from the bracket to the 4WD link/shifter. The bracket hangs pretty low right now and it is angled up from the bracket to the body. Should it be flat? I don't want to honeycomb this bracket trying to find the sweet spot for shifting my 4WD. And just a note, when the 3" BL was on I could shift to and run in 4LO but it would pull out of it going up hill climbs so I don't think the bracket install was perfect to begin with.

Thanks for any advice...

Sounds like whoever did the BL was no guru. Sorry for your troubles.

Agreed.

And the PO probably had a 3"bl to get it up for cheap which is the wrong way to go in my opinion. Id get rid of the bl or bring it down to 1.25"

This is a great product. Fixes all the linkage problems from factory linkage.

Agreed! Just adding the 3" BL proved that

Done! I cut it in half... was easier to ensure all were exact rather then going the extra .25

Once funds build back up I may look into this.

Just to close the loop... I did fix it today. I just took the 3" bracket that came with the lift and moved it to a 1.5" bracket. After shifting in and out of everything a few times it seems everything is working as it should.

3" cut down to 1.5" = completed!

I'm in the same boat as you. Bought my tj with a 3in body lift. I hate body lifts and I can tell that I have some problems with it so I've been considering cutting it in half since I don't have the funds for a 4" suspension yet. Any tips or words of advice for cutting it down?
