so I just purchased a 1998 TJ with a blown 2.5. and just replaced it with one from a wrecker. tonight is the first time i had it running. there is a small manifold leak but my main concern is the tick, tick tick,... 3 ticks brief pause and repeat. i took a video but will try to figure out how to get it on my CPU and then post it somehow. not a knock but tick. and it is especially loud in front of the radiator area. or i should say most easily heard.
Has anybody had this type of problem? I removed the oil pan and checked the rods as best as I could. I am no mechanic bit there was no play. Side to side about a 1mm. I think when I step on the gas it goes much quieter or even silent.
well i put a half liter of trans fluid in the motor to see if it was a stuck lifter or something like that but no results yet. could it be a bad timing chain?
