32rh, beating a dead horse

2000 jeep wrangler with auto, fine first thing in the morning, at highway speeds the YC locks up fine, once up to temp it unlocks and I get a CEL? Any suggestions, just did the service, everything is smooth, shifts well, only 84k

Sorry, my fat thumbs on my iPhone, meant TC, torque converter.... I haven't looked into the codes yet, stuck at work still, tried the ignition trick, doesn't seem to work on a 2000

You should be able to get a code display using they key trick on a 2000.
I have an '01 with the same transmission (over 200K miles).
Not sure what you mean by torque converter "locks up fine at hwy speeds" or torque converter "unlocks once the temp is up".
Are you saying that it slips out of gear and throws a CEL once the engine temp is up? Just unclear as to what your symptoms are.

I was told it has a electronic solenoid that locks the torque converter at freeway speeds 45+ mph, that what I was confused about, just bought it. I deff. Dropped a gear before the light came on, I'm driving 65 at 3200 Rpms

I was told it had a electronic solenoid that locks the TC at freeway speeds, to lower the RPMS, that's why I thought it was a four speed,

Sounds like you're not hitting 3rd.... or.... do you happen to know that the differential gearing is, tire size?
Other than that, definitely check tranny fluid level.

If its not hitting third? Any suggestion what causing that, fluid is brand new, good level, it's odd, once up to normal op. temp, the RPMs are high on the freeway

Correct, I was on a small incline, downshifted as expected, then it just stayed there, and the CEL came on

Turn the ignition key On - Off - On - Off - On within 5 seconds
(motor OFF the entire time)

If its throwing a code along with not shifting is that considered limp mode? What are the chances of catastrophic tranny failure and needing to be rebuilt, I wanna kick start the guys head who sold it to me....

You can reset the CEL by unhooking the battery terminal.
No need to push the OD button... keep it on the mileage setting.
When you get the CEL light again... pull over, shut er down, and do the key trick. The code or codes will flash on the odometer after a brief pause. Be ready to write em down.
Your transmission problem might not be catastrophic.

An easier/faster no-tool way to clear a CEL is by simply disconnecting the driver's side connector going to the PCM (engine computer). That will reset the CEL & computer while not losing the clock setting or radio presets as happens when the battery is disconnected.

i have a 2000 sahara and i believe they have a mechanical torque converter and not an electronic one.if its electric you should have some sort of ecu for the transmission on the firewall or fender.this is just my two cents but im pretty sure they are a mechanical tc

I believe your right, I think I'm just getting bum info, only had this jeep a week, I gotta get this organized before shipping it over seas with me. I hope it's just a third gear lock out signal,

Nope, it is a clutch type lock-up convertor that is controlled electronically via the TCC connector on the driver's side rear right above the oil pan.

Ok so i drove it to autozone to get the code check, they dont offer free code reading anymore. Ca. State thing i guess, go figure. I bought a lil pocket reader, codes comes back as p0138, bad 02 sensor, bought and planning on doing it when im off, with the CEL light still on, Will that cause the jeep to be in "Limp mode"?

It was shifting fine when I first got down the road with the fluids cool, but once they warmed up to Op temp, boom.....no third gear. I just did the filter/fluid a few days ago, ATF+4 as recommended and nothing is wrong until she gets warmed up, thats why i didn't notice anything until i was on my commute to work, any ideas?
