3X Cracked Header

New to this site, figured you guys could help me out.
I have a Banks header on my 99 4L sport. I have already replaced it 2 times in the last 3 years and it needs to be replaced again, it keeps cracking. anyone have experience with Banks customer service, I sent them a couple of e-mails but they haven't gotten back to me.
I purchased it originaly at 4 wheel parts where they offered to replace it with a Borla header.
I need some feed back as to which header is the better product, or if there is a better header out there.
thanks
smitty

Sounds to me like you have a binding problem in your exhaust system. I have never dealt with banks before so you are own your own there.

I dunno if its the headers or what in this case. My buddy has a Borla Header on his 4.0. His is a 97 wrangler sport and after his stock manifold cracked he replaced it with a Borla header. The Borla cracked at the middle joint and he called to have it replaced. The deal is they make you outright buy a new one for 400+ dollars and then you ship them your old one. After they receive and approve it was a defect they reimburse the money to you. That was about a year ago and already this new Borla replacement is cracked in the same spot. Think this time instead of dishing out more cash and headache we are going to try to weld it up. Seems like an expensive product for the manufacturers not to back them up better then that.

i talked to a couple of people who said there banks didn't make a noticable differance. may not be the answer you are looking for but i took the cheap way out. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB..._promot_widget

has a lifetime warranty and is stainless steel.

Headers are notorious for cracking on the I-6. The lifetime warranty helps, but you may want to sell your new header and go back to the stock manifold, or a company that makes a reinforced manifold to avoid cracking in the future. Unfortunately, Banks is one of the worst for cracking, they are relatively new to the Jeep market and haven't figured out how to keep the headers from cracking yet...

Borla isn't much better than Banks. I replaced the cracked manifold on my 99TJ with a Borla, and it lasted just over 1 year. The 2nd one has lasted over a year ....so far (insert smiley with crossed fingers here)!

thanks for all of your replys, I was in phoenix this past weekend so I didn't get a chance to read responses until today.
I now know not to even try a borla header.
I hate to give up on a 400. header, the hot rodder in me can't cope with running a stock exhaust. has anyone had any experience with doug thorley headers, they are a top quality header, or gibson.

If you look at how many of us are still running the STOCK JEEP HEADER, you might catch a clue!

Do you want a reliable trail proven set-up? Then you can't beat what came off the assembly line!

I've been trying to figure out if you are joking. The stock header on the 4.0 is notorious for cracking. I had to replace mine a few years ago with the upgraded version that came out in 01 or 02.

Actually it was the 91-99 4.0 manifold that was bad. There have been numerous lawsuits etc about it. That's one of the reasons that DC added the manifold to the emissions warranty. It let a lot of people replace theirs under warranty.

The 4 cylinders had some issues too in that time frame. But you are correct, in 2000 they redesigned it to have the 2 expansion ports on the outer most tubes to prevent the cracking at the collector.

Smitty I have heard good things about the Thorley products, however I still don't think they cost/benefit ratio is right.

That's right, Jack. I thought that would be understood since I have a 94. Thanks for clarifying though.

I just replaced mine with the newer version when it cracked.

It was an issue for a long time. It only took them almost a decade to fix it.

I didn't know about the recall or replacement problems before now. I had a 89 wrangler, and it had a cracked manifold, but after about 175,000 miles.
My current jeep also got a cracked manifold which is why I originally replaced it with the banks header. After all these years I'm getting sick and tired of exhaust leaks. I did notice a difference in power with the header,
