4.0 Motor Problems

My TJ has about 165,000 miles and leaking water from the rear and front of the engine so I know the end is near. I was wanting some of your experiences with rebuilding or replacing, which one do you think is a better option?

Thanks for your input.

Leaking water? since when is there water in an engine? Take it to a garage find out what's up. The 4.0s are supposed to last to 300,000 before rebuilding and it'll go even more.

If it's leaking water it's probably radiator or water pump related, which is far from the end.....

There's water all throughout the engine, that's how its cooled. There can be leaks like he is talking about that are very bad, or it could be something simple. More info is needed.

Freeze plugs, heater hoses (including hoses to the heater core) or WCS - head gasket.

Clean your engine and get a cooling system pressure test kit/tool. Then you can find the coolant leak.

Brief History, The radiator was replaced 2 years agao and the water pump was replaced last year. About a month ago I began smelling antifreeze, I could not find a leak but could smell it. Then it began pushing water out of the reservoir container but it never ran hot. I replaced the radiator cap and that solved it until Saturday. Now it has water leaking out of the flywheel cover and somewhere on the front of the motor but still not running hot.

Trace back where the coolant is leaking from and let us know exactly where it is coming from (pictures would be nice). It doesn't sound like your engine is going out ... just a leak that can be fixed easily (easier that rebuilding the engine and a LOT cheaper).
