4.0 question

I haave a 1997 sport with a 5 speed. Currently it has 180,000 on it and it still runs very well. The oil has been changed regularly on it and it has not been overly abused. (The owner before me was a bit rough on it). I drive it easy and take care of it.

How much more life can I expect out of this thing!?

It is hard to say without taking the engine apart and inspecting the engine and the rest of the components of the wrangler but properly maintained, the powertrain should outlast the rest of the car. You may need to replace a few parts as they end their useful life but from what I read, the 4.0 is a pretty tough engine.

I have the same year. I bought it at 105,000. I heard they are great motors and if you take care of them they last forever. I have seen on here people have over 250,000 on some of them and still running strong.

I have honestly never heard of anyone having a problem with the 4.0, as long as all the regular maintenance has been done. Usually the Jeep falls apart around the engine. I am sure there are bad ones like everything else but nothing I have ever heard of. Ours has 130000 on the clock since we bought it new in 2002 and no major issues at all

keep changing the oil on time and you should be good for a while. My current one has 130k, past two had 160 and 210k.
