4WD dash light wont come on

So lastnight i went down a small trail on my way home. At the start of the trail i slow then pull my 4wd lever. The dash light never came on. I tried going into 4lo and it still didnt come on. 4wd hi and lo did work like normal.

Its just the light that wont come on.

It is more than likely the switch on the transfer. Pull the wire connector from the transfer and use something like a paper clip or jumper wire and make the two contacts inside the wire harness side of the connector touch. Turn on your ignition switch and see if the light is on. If so then it is your switch. If not then it could be the bulb, but again most likely the switch.

Mine stopped working years ago. Do not need it and do not care. I know when I put it in 4wd and if it operational.

Yeah, you'll definitely know if you're in four. Like sarge said, it could be a dirty contact on whatever switch it makes when you shift into four, or a loose/dirty connector/wire.

Bulb could be burned out as well.

I found an old thread that suggested reaching up under the dash (in front of your left knee) and give the wiring a bit of a wiggle.

Waddya know, 4wd light starts working again

Hmmm not sure on this one yet. I did not get to look under it as it was raining to hard. I will try and look at the plug tonight tho.

On my way home i stopped of at a dirt/mud trail and the bulb is fine. Sometimes the light would come on other times it wont. It would come on most of the time going into 4hi. The light goes off going into 4lo. Going from 4lo to 4hi the light does not come beck on.

It sounds ligt a lose wire but still not sure.

Yeah sounds like a flakey contact or loose wire. I'm not sure how that switch is made though...I'll look into it tonight at work and if I find something I'll let ya know on here.
