top right corner of the cluster. You should be able to tell if you are in 4wd or not. The light could just be unplugged, check the top of the t-case on the passenger side and see if its disconnected

if you hold the trip/odometer button while starting the ignition key it will do a check of all the dash lights. They will each light up one by one. You could have a burned bulb or loose connection

T-case= transfer case, its under the vehicle by the trans mission.

The indicator light will read Part Time… don't look for the 4x4 that the Ford has!

Upper right hand corner for the light.

As stated, it could be a bulb or the connector at the transfer case.

Also another common question is what is the full time for? The answer is nothing. Jeeps shared the same dash as the Cherokee which had an optional full time system.

Not all day part time and full time as you can see from the pic above. My gauges are like the one above.

That is killer! Never new that! I tried it and my 4wd indicator lights don't work either. Both bulbs wouldn't be out would they?

Mine stopped working years ago and it can stay that way. If I don't know I am in 4x4 I should not be driving one.

When the 4wd light on my '97 wasn't working, I reached up under the dash (about where your left knee would be) and gave the wiring a bit of a wiggle - the light now works

My 4wd light will only come on when I put the transmission in reverse. And that happens in 2wd or 4wd.....

Any thoughts on that one?

So after researching this topic, there seems to be many variations of similar problems. When I do the dash functional test mentioned above, my "full time" and "part time" lights light up but nor the "4WD lo" light. Also, when I engage either 4 hi or 4 lo, the only light on dash is "part time".
I have a 2001 4.0 auto sport. What lights should I have when 4 hi and 4 lo? I dont have an owners manual. BTW, both hi and lo function properly. I also tried to jump to switch at TC and still only get "part time".

I have been wondering why the full time light never came on. Now I know why!
