4WD not engaging

hey all-

my battery died wheeling the other day. like-completely died and wouldn't take a jump. when it died i was in 4H. i got a ride to an autoparts store and installed a new battery. when i got my jeep started up- the 4WD lite was on when i shifted back to 2H. when i put it back into 4H-the lite goes off. i figured it was a fuse-untl today. When i went to use 4H- i realized it wasn't engaging the front axle-so no 4WD. i'm thinking it must be a fuse or relay switch that must've shorted out from the dead battery.

Anyone heard/experienced this before? i don't see any fuses that was listed for the tranny.

Any help would be sweet. damn snow sucked today without my 4WD.

Thanks!!!!

re: lever

yes- the lever does move with little resistance now. i used to be able to feel the front wheels engage. now there's nothing.

Check your linkage, sounds like something got disconnected in the process.

my linkage? underneath the jeep? i was actually in the sand when that happened-not sure how something would have disconnected. could that have occurred from the battery dying?

The transfer cable had a breakaway clip to prevent damage if u pull the shifter to hard u can break that clip
