5 Speed Rubber Boot/bezel issue

When I bought it, it had the rubber boot over the shifter and nothing holding it on/down at the bottom. On the trail dust would come up from down below something fierce.

It was suggested that I was missing the rectangular black plastic piece that fits down in the rectangular hole. I got that. But what holds the bottom of the rubber boot into it? Try as I might to kind of stuff the boot under the plastic piece it just comes out. Am I missing another part? There doesn't seem to be anything to hold the bottom of the rubber boot in place. Thanks.

It's been awhile since I had mine out, but if I recall, the boot is staples to the plastic piece. I'll go pop mine and double check tho.

I sit corrected. It just folds over. The thin end of the mounting flange goes twards the rear of the Jeep.

I apologize for hijacking this but I have the same problem and I have no idea where to find the bezel that locks down the boot. Where can you find one?

So the bottom part of the boot goes right under the bottom of the bezel (narrow end to rear) and you push it down to snap it in?

Basically, yes. The boot slips over a groove about 1/2 way down the side of the bezel. When I get home, I'll take a pic and post it up.

The boot goes on the outside of the bezel? Which then gets pushed down?

I installed a new one this week on my 2001 Jeep and just pushed the rubber boot over the new plastic bezel and then pushed the plastic bezel into place - seems to be holding everything tight now

OK, then I was completely clueless in my approach. You're saying you can't even see the bezel installed? I'll try that.

Yep... I see no bezel when I look down at mine...it's covered by the boot.

Put the plastic piece in, then the boot, ignore the epoxy, mines snapped before

The boot goes around the retainer and locks in on it's own

The whole thing snaps in place, and the retainer is totally hidden by the boot.

Hope that helps, sometimes a single pic is worth more than a volume of words.

Just to let you know, late model manual trans Cherokee's have them too, so if you go down to the wreckers they might have one cheaper than the stealership, thats where I got mine.

you need to have the upper rubber boot over the bezel then you just snap it in.

Screw a screw where your thumb is and leave the head sticking out so it will pop in.

Maybe it would help if we knew exactly what is broken? Nothing looks missing from your picture.
