Working on an 05 4cyl.-6 spd,50K that was jumping out of first almost every time today and found something interesting. Since I had searched this and found so many posts, I thought I'd share. The shifter had a flaw. The lever that holds the roller that locks the shifter into place was bottoming out on the bracket in the forward (1st,3rd,5th) position, therefore releasing the spring pressure and not letting the roller fully seat in it's position. I wish I could explain it better or had snapped a pic. My solution- Pry The Lever back and place a screwdriver in it to hold it, Took a drill and or a dremel tool with small grinding bits and removed some material from the lever until spring had tension at all times and roller fully seated in it's place. The metal is hardened,(went through every bit I had) The screwdriver will jump out from time to time and it's a tight place to work, so be prepared to use swear words. But, it Fixed the problem, I've been driving it this afternoon and not 1 problem. Now I know this won't fix everybody's, But for you guys that are out of warranty and don't won't to drop major $ on a new trans. Check it out. I didn't search this so if it's a known problem, I apologize. But I'll give more info or help if needed.
