97 in accident; airbags?

I have noticed some airbags for sale on Ebay as mine were deployed in the head-on collision. They really do their job as everyone was fine but I only had liability insurance and I want to do as much as I can myself.
Is there a DIY on how to replce them. I have installed mufflers and such I hope it is not out of my league.
thanx

I believe replacing air bags can only be done by licensed shops, because of liability reasons. I really wouldn't feel comfortable trying to replace one.

Replacing just the air bags will not fix it if they were deployed. You will also need the crash sensors in the front valance. If you are going for just looks due to the plastic air bag housings being blew apart then yes you can just through the passenger side one in the dash and get an aftermarket steering wheel for the driver side. But trying to fix a safety restraint feature is not a good idea unless you are real confident in your own ability to do so.

What crash sensors, there's no crash sensors in the front valance. There is an air bag controller, off hand I don't know where it is in the TJ. In my XJ it was originally under the drivers seat but recall moved it under the center console on my 98. The reason I know it's not in the front is because my son rolled his and we rebuilt it from the tub forward. The sensor does have to be replaced though, most body shops do it on a regular basis.

I had not looked for them on my Jeep or anything but I know on most other cars/trucks with air bags there are two sensors on the front of the car some were. Most of the time on the frame rail around the bumper mounts.Yes you have an air bag controller or module and on some are made right into the rear housing of the airbag case itself but it also has to have crash sensors some were to send a signal during a crash to the controller or module for the air bags to deploy.

According to the FSM body diagnostic procedure, book 3 of 3, page 8 4.2.1 shows the airbag control module and the sensor to be under the front of the console. I've never had mine out or I would have remembered it. Has the entire test procedure for the airbags and squibs [charges] for them, downside it looks like you need the Chrysler scan tool, figures, I also needed to borrow that for when I added a new keyfob to my ZJ.

Thank you for the replys. Looks like I should go to the body shop, it seems so many people are selling air bags on Ebay, I thought they would be easy. Is it against they law to cut them out and drive it?
thank you all

how about an aftermarket steering wheel? BTW if you are for sure gonna drive with out an air bag make sure you cut the loop on the seat belt.

Your rig will not pass emissions if the air bag light is on. If you take out the light but it will still not pass because they check for it to light up and then shut off.

Also i assume the thing behind the shifter is the module and the silver part being the sensor? I dont know though
