97 Passenger Floor Rust Through

I have a 97 with rust through on the passenger side front floor. I've looked at the $40 or so replacement floor pans and wonder if anyone has any experience installing them? I have friends who can weld, but am more interested in say cleaning and grinding the area, using POR-15 or some rust stopper, and maybe riveting or bolt the pan in? Just wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this, and also the quality and fitment of the replacement pans...Thanks in advance folks!
