97 Skid Plate Bolt and Spacer HELP! STUCK

Hello. Have a 1997 Sport.

Im stuck in a parking lot right now because my skid plate is hanging by one bolt and my transmission and transfer case is hanging there.

What size are the bolts? I know theyre 18mm but what tread size? Will I find this at homedepot or parts store?

Also, where can I find the spacers? Only at dealer?

Thanks

I'm guessing your weld nuts have broken. You will need to weld new ones back on. Weld nuts can be bought at Fastenal or McMaster Carr. I replaced mine with 1/2 - 13 bolts.

If it just fell out, you must have some serious frame rust. People have used a ratchet strap to hold the skid plate up to the frame as an emergency fix, and it might get you home but it sounds like you have some serious welding repairs to get done before you can drive that jeep again.

They are 1/2" x 13. 3/4" head. They didn't go metric till later on.

I was able to find one of the bolts and slowly drove home with 2 bolts only. It seems like only two of the bolts are rusted and the thread is striped.

Thank you all for responding.

What other permanent fix options do I have?

Drill out the stripped weld nuts and weld new ones in.

Thanks Nick. The weld nut you linked in your previous post- are those good for the stock bolts?
