97 TJ no A/C

I purchased my TJ 2 yrs. ago & always wondered if how difficult or expensive it would be to install a stock a/c unit on my rig.( 4.0 ,p.s.,5 spd.) I see that the mount is there & what appears to be a couple of connectors near that area not being used. I have seen kits on line :JC Whitney,Collins Bros. Jeep, & so on.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Shop around...

The best advise I can give you is let a few air/con people look at it and ask them for a price?
They know the ins and outs better than most...
At wost you can get some good ideas by playing the "ignorant no idea bloke" who asks a million questions then go home and fix it yourself! But only if you are sure you can do it!

it's not worth it, since it does not have factory AC you need everything under the dash, new controls, everything on the engine, everything in front of the radiator and most likely a bigger radiator, and god only knows what else.

No need for A/C in a jeep. Take your top off.

And if your oh so worried about the rain or something buy a cheap throw on emergency top and maybe a fan or something.. That would be like $100 give or take..

Try that in the summer where I wheel and you'll regret wheeling without a top very quickly. And since I have to look somewhat presentable for my outside sales job, it wouldn't work for me to drive around without the top on... a/c is something I don't use that often but when I do, I'm glad I have it.

So far as adding a/c goes, I've read several reports from those who did it and all were very favorable. JC Whitney has (or at least had) a complete a/c kit that will work on a Wrangler.

THX for the tips, I checked for all the A.M. kits avail. I could find, but I still wondered if anyone poss. picked used parts from a wrecking yard & assem. all self except for test/charge & still be less $$ than kits.

im pretty sure if you can find those parts in a junkyard youd be able to make it and assemble it yourself. But it would require alot of technical knowledge including none of those parts being defective/broken. Youd also have to drill holes into your jeep, seriously unless youre a master mechanic i wouldnt mess with installing an AC if its never been there.
