97 TJ no start

got the 97 TJ with the 2.5l.. went down & filled up yesterday. i left the gas cap off by accident, drove 2 miles & left idle while i ran in somewhere to pay a bill, & when i came back out jeep had died. it will not restart, by cranking it over or by pull-start. the strange thing is that mil light went out(has been on for months) & it will not display the codes, either in the od display or a separate obII scanner... also gauges(none work) & cluster lights(some like the brake light do, but most don't) don't seem to work while cranking.. any1 have any ideas??? looked through the 'no-start post with no luck... thanks

You say that the gauges & other cluster functions don't work when cranking, do they work with the key on (but not in the start position)?

If good in the on position but not in the start position then check for power to fuses 9,10,11 in the block behind the glove box. Not if the fuses are good but if they get power both when key is on & then when in start position. If good there when on but not in start then the ignition switch is bad. Those 3 fuses need power in both key positions.

gauges don't work at all,, just the red lights, Brake, check gauges,, ect.. all 3 mentioned fuses show power in both key positions. i also bought a second pcm & switched it out with no change... any more ideas out there??

Well just a thought but if the codes just disappeared then something killed power to to the pcm which will erase the codes...possibly a bad battery, alternator, blown fuse or a bad/loose connection at the battery,pcm,etc...

every time u key-on the yellow mil light should illuminate 4 3 seconds. it doesn't.. & none of the gauges work at all. all power connections(including fusable link..) have been tested.) the codes have been reset by removing pcm & trying second pcm...

Have you checked the connections and condition of the battery? what's the battery voltage? Have you tried swapping the ASD relay under the hood? Lastly I would check the ground wires of the PCM and relays.
