97 Transmission question

I just bought a 97 sport 4.0L with auto transmission. My question is: does first gear have a low whine to it normally or is the the begining of a future problem. Once it hits second and third gear the whine is gone, there is no hard shifting and everything else seems fine, just curious if this is normal for a jeep tranny. Thanks

I have that transmission and a soft first gear whine coming from its planetary gearset is perfectly normal.

Thanks Jerry, I was hoping you would post on this! I won't be questioning you to death on the tranny swap now that I found one with auto! Thank you for the info you gave me earlier about the swap though.
