in oct I bought a new car ..parked jeep for winter until I could replace the soft top
97 4cyl. 2.5 5 speed
when I parked it it ran
Jan tried to start it get it into garage dead battery & ended up a bad battery..gauges were working charged battery enough to get it to crank & gauges went out..I figure bad battery let it sit a while longer until weather breaks...now I got a new battery..still no gauges work no check engine..
cranks but wont start put in a new cps after reading some threads nothing??
Now when I put my key in ignition I should here the door open beeps but do not unless I push in a bit harder then I get the beep ..
could my ignition switch have gotten wet & bad causing the ecu not to come up?
or am I looking at the wrong areas...help please I am ready for camping & kayaking season

Its easy to replace the ignition switch and its cheap. Chances are good that since 1997 that switch has been turned one too many times. There are plenty of threads showing how to do it. You will need a tamper proof #10 torx wrench that most auto parts stors carry. It took me about 15 -20 min to do mine.

Now if I remove f6 30 amp fuse under hood the fuel relay comes on & runs if I plug it back in it shuts off...also if key on & I unplug block 3 from ecu & plug in slowly all relays activate but still no gauges..could this be telling me ecu is still good just not comunicating do to a short??
Cranks great maybe still a bad battery?

The PCM supplies 5 volts on 2 or three harness wires to power the sensors

To see which ones for your year see FSM on line at Morris 4c4 knowledge base on their web site
Or download from jeepslimited.com after joining for free

If the PCM is not supplying the 5 volts you have three options

Replace PCM

Or

Try solder repair as shown on youtube link I posted

Or

Supply 5 volts with external voltage regulator like found in walmart items that plug into cigarette lighted and have USB ports as USB ports need 5 volts However make sure the amperage output is sufficient for the sensors you are powering

This all started when I cranked the engine on a battery charger...trying to exhaust all options before I try tapping into wires or getting a new pcm....
Have no power to coil either or must thus be done while cranking...
Relays all work..
