97 Wrangler 2.5L won't start when wet

HELP! I just moved from ohio a few weeks ago. Temps were freezing and I had no problems. When I moved to South Carolina it's been raining a lot and every time it does my engine won't start. The wetter, the deader. When it's sorta wet it may or may not start, but when it's very wet, nothing. I pulled a spark plug wire and there is fire getting there. I pulled the breather box off and it's smells like the injectors are working (i smell gas). It's like the timing is way off. Anyone know what this is?

thanks for all the helpful responses, but as they say, god helps those who help themselves.

if any of you have this problem, here is what happened to me.

the crank position sensor has a lead that come up from the transmission bellhousing where the sensor is located. that wire then connects into the harness right behind the throttle body. water was leaking down from between the hood and the cowl right on where all these connectors are, soaking them. After 183,754 miles the wires had frayed a bit and the water shorted out the connection, rendering the CPS inoperable. I dried the area out with a hair dryer then sealed everything up with some RTV, works fine now and it's still raining. Of course, I'll also remake a gasket for where the hood and the cowl meet, but for now, problem solved.

Thanks for all your help.
