98 Cluster Radio and Interior Lights Inoperative

Cleaned and twisted cluster prongs, power is good at both fuse boxes with a blown 40 amp accessory fuse which I replaced but still no solution. Grounds are all functioning. Headunit has power and ground but will not function. Cigarette lighter has power but will not power anything (if that is relavent). 1 spreaker wire is stripped on driver side front. Pass speaker wire capacitor is crushed . Neither shold affect my troubles though correct? Dome light bulb is good but no power running to it. Cluster lights up but has no guages. I've done extensive searching and have found nothing. I have yet to try to jump the switched power to constant power on the radio (read to try that in a search but don't understand how that would be a solution). Nor have I switched the light switch, but that funtions to operate exterior lighting and visually looks fine. Also I don't understand why they all run in a series and/or where a short to one of them is affecting all. Any help would be great, I'm really stumped. Thanks!

OK, changed my radio a few months ago, and the same thing happened to me. Looked high and low thru wiring diagrams, schmatics, and otherthings way over my paygrade to no avail. I mean I spent the better part of 2 days. Went back to basics and just started inspecting fuses. And wouldn't u know it, it was one of those tiny jobbies in the fuse box under the hood, 20 amp i think. Check that little f%$ker, can't remember the exact position or the exact amps, but to check all of them will take only a few minutes.
