I'm 19 years old and I don't know much about fixing cars but I have a 98 Jeep Wrangler tj 2.5L 4cylinder that I enjoy driving a lot!! The only thing is that it keeps turning off when I'm driving around 60mph or over. The first time it happened I thought it was the rotor and distributor cap so I replaced the rotor, distributor cap, the wire plugs that connect from the cap to the spark plugs and also put new spark plugs. It ran and two weeks after while driving on the freeway the jeep just turned off again. It cranks but won't turn on so I know it's getting power. Thinking that maybe it can be the fuel pump so I replaced the fuel pump and it began to run for like half a week before the same problem occurring again. I noticed that every time I would try turning it on and when it would crank the pdc coil fuse would blow so I replaced the fuse and started to run but only for really short distances and again the fuse blows and the jeep just turns off. So I suspected to be a short. I started looking and found exposed wires behind the radio so I secured them and the jeep turned on and started to run for like a month and while driving on the freeway it turns off again. Cranks but won't turn on so I know it's getting power. I just don't know where to look or what it can be. Any answers would really help and I will really appreciate it. Thank you.

Sounds like you have an intermittent short my friend. I'd start looking for a short in likely areas, check the wiring to your O2 sensors to make sure the exhaust hasn't burnt thru the insulation, also near the fuel pump since you said replacing it made a difference, and around the fuel injectors, ignition coil. Also I'm not sure which fuse supplies the crank sensor but Jeeps are bad for those shorting and causing all types of weird stuff. I've replaced two on my own Jeeps, one killed the entire gauge cluster until I unplugged it.

If it cranks engine ground is good so look to body ground

There is a ground strap that runs from back of engine to firewall and another that runs from same firewall bolt to base if hood make sure the strap from engine to firewall is undamaged with clean tight connections at each end

I also recall that there is another ground strap unique to 2.5 engine
