My trans blew so I'm in the process of getting an ax15. Just wanted to know if I'll run into any problems. Or if you guys have any pointers

My ax5 is starting to grind 2nd some. Will be going this route soon. You'll have to swap transfer cases (or atleast the input shaft). Aside from that there are kits that, I believe, have everything you need. Can't remember if the stock 2.5 clutch/flywheels are compatible.

I moved your Thread to the TJ Tech Forum. You should receive more response in this Forum.

You're right, the bellhousing would be your best bet......but looking on car-part.com and ebay I find no bellhousings for sale. I'm throwing the plate out there for those who are unable to find the bell. In that case the plate is basically your only option.

From what I can tell you keep the stock 2.5 pressure plate, but have to get a different clutch disk.

Also if you can find another bellhousing around you let me know. I'd be glad to send you money for it, s&h, and some extra for your time if you'd be interested in dealing with that.

Are you sure you don't already have an AX15 in it. I have a 98 TJ with the 2.5 and it cam with the AX15 from the factory. I believe from 97-99 they put the AX15 behind both motors. I also double checked with jeep directly after they gave me a copy of the build sheet and they confirmed I had an AX15 in mine. Measuring will tell as the AX15 is a couple inches longer than the AX5, plus you can tell by the placement of the transmission mount on the belly pan, I believe it is towards the back of the belly pan on the AX15 instead of the front.

Not as far as I know As in the pretty sure that in USA TJ all the 2.5 97-99 manual tranny were AX-5

One was to tell if AX-5 is the plate between the front and back half

On the AX-5 it is cast iron and on the AX-15 it is aluminum other then that they are quite similar in appearance

Again I very much doubt you 97-99 TJ came with a 2.5 and an AX-15 from the factory

97-99 TJ parts list shows no AX-15 for the 2.5

Only one 2.5 manual tranny

Only one 2.5 manual tranny Bell

And

Only one 2.5 clutch disc

So my guess is either a swap was done or Jeep told you wrong and you have a ax-5 with your 2.5 engine

This is probably why swaps have to go to a Chevy clutch disc as there is not a jeep disc to mate the ax-15 input to the pressure plate that fits the TJ 2.5 flywheel

I was asking the guy from Spec Clutch and he said he would make a billet aluminum flywheel for the 2.5, but would need a total of 5 orders. So anyone want to buy one?haha I was just asking the guy out of curiosity because they can make a semi metallic clutch for me with the 10 spline to fit for the 2.5 to ax15. I am used to the previous clutch I got from them so that why I am getting a clutch through them

Why would you want an aluminum flywheel??? I can see an aluminum flywheel for a high-hp high-revving race engine where quick up-down revs are the goal but it would only make your 2.5L likely run rougher and more likely to stall in many situations.

Flywheels are made heavy for a reason... it really helps the engine run smoother and less likely to stall in low-rpm situations. I would definitely keep the heavy flywheel for your 2.5L engine.

The reason I was asking is that nothing in my 2.5 motor is any kind of factory. I have a list as long as my beard haha (I'm bald lmao) I was thinking go big or go home that's why. Getting it on the dyno as soon as I get the tranny in. I am getting it tuned for E85 and 93, I have a whole programmable ecm with a harness and flex fuel sensor ready to put in at my leisure. I am projecting revs around 6400-7000. I'm guestimating on that though
