Question 98 TJ CLUTCH (need answer :])

This clutch had not been replaced to their records but this clutch was EXTREMELY stiff!!!! I couldn't tell if it was new, used, or nearly dead.

I do know what a terrible clutch is like. ( slipping gears when giving the car gas ). This jeep, however, was not bad at all just extra extra stiff! Let me know what you all think.

It could be a number of things; the hydraulics are my main guess, either the master or slave cylinder could have a problem, or maybe the pressure plate is... just that stiff.

Where about on the pedal range does the clutch begin to engage/disengage? Is this your first Jeep? Jeeps are typically a little bit stiffer than most recent cars if thats what you're used to

This is my first Jeeps yes.

The Pedal was about 2 to 3 inches for the engage to disengage. Also, the pedal squeaked when I became laid back (slowed down on throttle to clutch pedal and vice versa) and used to the clutch (well sorta used to it).

I'm used to a non-hydraulic clutch, 94 VW Jetta (Don't Bash me, =]).

If it seems to be operating properly, then maybe you just need to get used to the jeep. Like you said you went from driving a little jetta to more rugged built jeep.

I borrowed a VW rabbit for a few days when my jeep was down and the first time I pushed down on the clutch I almost kicked my foot through the floor. Very different.

Have a mechanic or tranny shop take it for a spin and see what they think.
