the other day i was driving on the highway and all of a sudden my truck started grinding n really bad at higher rpms ..i thought it might be a hub bearing but i lifted the tires n there tight ...now i was driving in the rain today n my traction is horrible n slight wobble ..n right after i left off the gas pedal i hear a clinking for a second . n now my motor is running real hard n heating up higher then usual im guessing its being stressed from the problem n running harder ...any ideas ...
Jack up the rear end. Rotate one of the rear tires back and forth, same with drive shaft. Check for excessive play and noise. Maybe rear end went? Just a guess.
well i actually did jiggle the drive shaft to see it it was lose ..there is sum play like id say 1/2" turn to the left n to the right ...is that normal? but no movement up n down or side to side n the universals look tight
A half a turn would be a lot. Remove the fill plug on the rear end cover, get an idea of what the oil looks like. I would still jack it up and turn the wheels and dshaft. I could be way off here but did you think noise was coming from rear end?
so i felt like it was coming from the front thats y i checked to see if it was the hub bearings ...but as u must know jeeps are small n echo alot inside so maybe it is coming from the rear n i just cant tell...i checked the oil today n coolant they seem good no burnt smell or bubbles coolant is dirty as hell but was planning on doing a flush when the weather gets better over here.. never had a problem with over heating..but now when i turn off the car to run in the store or something n come out when i turn on the truck the temp gauge is little over half but goes down to normal after couple seconds ..lugs are tight air is all the same just put new tires on couple months ago so there good never did an alignment tho definitely need one tho...no leaks in the front pumpkin didnt check the back tho...but im ganna try n lift the rear up tomorrow n check the wheels...wat do i look for in the oil from the rear pumpkin wats good n wats bad?
When you said traction in your first post, you mean one of the tires were spinning on wet asphalt or what? And you said something was wobbling, can you describe more?
before when i ran thru a puddle or wet surface it was a beast no sliding or movement..but now going around bends or straight over wet surfaces it drifts n loses control n wobbles ...n it has had a slight wobble before but i figured it was because i needed an alignment... but now everything rumbles n in high rpms n low gears till i get into 4th at a low rpm ..still grinds but not loud...
When you were under it checking u joints did you see anything hanging down or broken? Maybe check your front and rear track bar mounts? Look for a broken control arm? Sway bar link broken? Look at all the parts that hold the axles to the frame.
well figured it out ...cant believe i didnt realize this before probably because i was only checking under the driver side ...but turns out my skid plate rotted out on the passenger side and was hanging smh...so my transfer case has just been bouncing around all over and pulling on my drive shafts ...rigged it for now but gatta figure out how to reattach it to a rotted chasiss
