I was wondering if anyone could help with this I have a 12/99' Wrangler TJ and I'm trying to put on a new serpentine belt. Any diagram I can find on the route is always wrong because the Idler pulley sits down too close to the alternator and causes it to rub.
I've managed to find bits of information that it may be something to do with the fact that it's an export right hand drive (I'm from Australia).
If anyone has a diagram or any ideas on how this should be routed that would be really handy. Below is a picture of mine.
I don't have PP at my disposal right now but the belt needs to:
1: From the A/C compressor go down and around the alternator
2: From the alternator up and over the idler pulley you have pictured
3: From the idler pulley down and around the crank
4: The second end coming from the A/C compressor will go down and under the water pump pulley.
I can't see the rest of your setup but I am guessing
5: It will go from the water pump up and around the power steering pump
6: The behind the idler near the power steering just like it is in the diagram above
The schematic you show is what is in the US FSM. You may need to go to a local dealer to see if they can make a copy of the schematic from their manual.
Thanks everyone, that's exactly how I tried it but it's just too tight I can't even seem to fit the old belt on doing it like this, there has to be something I'm missing, I just can't seem to find it. It's probably only 10-20mm off what I need might just have to go for a slightly bigger belt - still doesn't make sense though because the new belt is exactly the same as the old.
EDIT
By the way tensioner idl pulley has been fully loosened as well
Not to belabor this, just checking....Did you loosen the bolt on the front of the tensioner pulley so it could slide, or just loosen the tensioning bolt?
Looking at the motor. You are going smooth side that comes off the left side of the new idler, down under and up off of the alt going straight up to go over the top and head right over the a/c?
the problem is that his jeep is not a standard (left hand drive) U.S. Jeep. His is a right hand drive jeep and the U.S. FSM does not work for his belt routing.
Okay so turns out old one will go on again with that routing everyone is describing so from AC to ALT over IDL under Crank etc. just needed a little bit of encouragement but the new one is about 10-20mil too small back to the shop I go haha, thanks for all the help everyone really good forum here.
