99 wrangler, 4.0 5 sod grinding gears,

Just got my first jeep a few weeks ago, said it needs a new slave cylinder but it looks new, topped off fluids in Tranny, grinds when shifting through all gears except for 5th. What could this be? Any help would be great as this is my daily driver. Thanks. Even at a dead stop its hard yo get in first gear, and then when it does it goes in hard and kind of pops like the clutch isn't disengaged all the way
