99 wrangler starts for a second then stops

A friends jeep got wet last night and stalled, couldnt get it started last night but it would turn over fine. dried everything still nothing. This morning he goes to start it and it will run for a second then die. Any ideas?

Mas airflow- no signal
That would be my first guess if it cranks as normal but dies a couple seconds later

water in distributor cap pull off then spray with wd 40. His 99 wrangler doesn't have a MAF

i pulled is distributer cap and all other connections i could get to under the hood while on the trail and made sure they were dry. the distributer was damp and we dried it, is it possible it could be damaged?

In '99 they were an option. My '99 doesn't, but the owners manual mentions them.

my 99 does ... I had an extra made for my wife and I tried to use it just for kicks and it started for a short bit, I went to put it in drive and it died.

yeahh im pretty sure his wrangler doesnt have the "special key" leaning more towards something got wet.
