I'm new to the forum, but have read alot on here.I have searched but can't find the answer. the ? is i want to run one led off each back up light. one off each side. Some say run relays some say don't. What do u'll think? If no relay , Do i just hook in to the back up wire solder and heat shrink.
Yup I have done the same thing. If I am not mistaking, but in order to run the larger auxiliary lights you need the relay. Doing this with that type of setup prevents a short going straight through the factory wires, and then burning up the harness, or the possibility of starting a fire.
LED's draw so little current, that you won't need a relay. You can just splice them in to your existing back up light wires. It's amazing how much light those little things produce...!
Relays are needed for conventional incandescent light bulbs on the Reverse light circuit due to how much current they draw. But LEDs draw so little current that you won't need a relay for that usage.
