A/C Compressor

I searched, but couldn't find a write up or help thread..

I'm about to help a buddy, who's new to the Wrangler (and Jeep in general) family. He's just bought a 2002 Wrangler X with 4.0/Auto. It needs a new A/C Compressor so he can use it with his newborn daughter through summer.

I told him I'm sure I'd get some help on the forum. Has anybody done this job, or know of any good write ups on other forums? Thanks..

Replacing the compressor is the easy part. Evacuating and recharging the system requires specialized equipment. I have the FSM if you want a copy. PM me the year.

So even once we get it on, he's going to have to pay somebody to charge it all up I'd imagine? Would it be easiest just to let the show do the whole thing?

The easiest way would be to let a shop do all of it, and the most expensive.

Or you could buy and install the compressor yourself - you'd save on the parts mark-up and the labor. Then have them charge it for you.

Charging it is the easiest part, probably less than $100.
.
If you install it -- Be sure to read the included instructions with it - it may want you to fill it with oil before installing.

See Stu offroad. He has a recharge write up. Also depending on how the compressor died you may need to replace more parts. Google TJ AC Repair.

Good Luck
