A/C Fan Speed

I did some searching and found some info - but still don't quite know what is the issue.

The fan on my Jeep works in the three lowest positions, but not on high. In the three lowest positions, it blows out on high only, on high - it turns off. If you have the switch on high and give it a wiggle, it will come on sometimes.

I took out the resistor pack per the FMS and tested the resistance. The resistor pack appears to be working OK based on that.

I took out the fan speed switch from the dash. It does not appear to be burned or metled as some have reported. The FSM also said to check the resistance, I just was not sure where to test on that one.

So after my looking - I think it is the fan switch - but that is $100 compared to $20 for the resistor pack. Just want a second opinion before I go and spend money on the wrong thing.

Eric

Hey bud I seen you researching the topic and was waiting for the question.

There are several items to check.
Since you said it works on all but the High setting it is not the resistor pack. The resistor controls the lower three settings. The High setting is run to the battery. The Issue mostly with the highest setting tends to be melting due to the fact it get so much power to it.

You need to look real close at the terminals on the fan speed switch to check for melting. Sometimes you have to remove the connectors to look real close at the base of the terminals on the switch.

Also.....$100 for just the switch is a little high. I've bought the entire control box with all the switchs/connectors/airlines several times for less that $100. From the dealer.

When I took the switch out - there was some discoloration in the switch itself that could be seen - and a little beginning of some melting. Nothing serious or obvious though.

As far as the $100 - the dealership I called said that they only sell the whole control box - not just the switch. You happen to know a part number for just the switch and a place where I can buy it online?

Also - my switch does not look exactly like yours (based on some pics in some older threads I found). Similar - but not quite the same.

Even a little melting on the outside off the switch will do it.

I'll try and get you the part number For your 06.
A good place for part online is Davey's jeeps. I'll get the link for his site in a little bit.

I will give them a try. There is also a Jeep bone yard in my area I can try. Otherwise - new OEM it is I guess.

I have the part number for the whole control module. But if you have one for the switch only - that would rock.

Thanks for the help!

I've never found the single switch by itself. They only come as the control box as a whole.
