A/C Problem

Before I get YELLED at, I searched, then searched again. I'm not saying I looked for the correct thing, i'm just saying I can't find what I'm looking for.

So I am driving down interstate, and my cruise is set at 65 and I am going along with my air conditioner blowing nice and cold through the regular vents. Suddenly, there is a hill. As I go up the hill, the air stops blowing through the normal vents and starts blowing through the defrost vents.

Side note: Would any of my problem have anything to do with the cruise control? It will suddenly stop working sometimes. Green CRUISE light is on, but will not engage.

Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You have a vacuum leak. And yep it can effect the cruise control too.

Vacuum leaks have been a bane to jeeps since they had vacuum operated wipers.
Be driving with the wipers on, have to accelerate and the wipers would slow down or even stop, till you took your foot off the gas.

Do a search on vacuum leak and/or a/c blows out defroster ducts.

Why would you expect to get yelled at? I'm sure I've asked some dumb and/or redundant questions over the past few months. Everyone has been nice and extremely helpful. I've been reading this forum for several months and have not seen anyone get yelled at.

Even when I've seen disagreements among forum members they were respectful of each other's views. Where have you been that caused you to expect such treatment?

Correct on it being a vacuum leak. I had the same problem an it was the line that connects to the vacuum canister under the battery.

Lay under the Jeep right behind the front right tire, look up along the frame for a line connecting to the canister. My bet is there are cracks in it so you can either cut the end off an reattach, get a new chunk of hose and reattach or wrap in tape for a temporary fix.

My Jeep did the exact same thing a while ago and it was a metal vacuum tube under the batter tray area that had corroded a bit. It was a pain to find but once fixed it has worked perfectly since then.

Since you have good vacuum until the engine gets into a low vacuum state (going uphill) check the hose to the vacuum reservoir in the fender well under the battery. Low vacuum will cause the HVAC to default to defrost & the CC needs vacuum to hold the throttle in the set position.

haha I was gonna post this diagram as well but I was on my phone when I replied earlier and didn't have it saved there! But I happened to have the pic from me helping someone else with the same problem still so I opted for that one.
