A few Front Drive shaft Questions!

Ok heres a few questions i have guys:
1: Ok Heres a few pics of my front drive shaft. What is the peice that i broke called? And where can i buy one at? Would it be easier to buy that part and have it welded on the old drive shaft or just buy a good used Whole drive shaft?

2:Also should that drive shaft be turning when im driving in 2 high? I didnt think the front drive shaft should be turning unless my 4 wheel drive is engaged....if so what do i do to fix it? Clean the hubs?

Cant see pic and link says forbiden.

1. I would not do any welding of the DS unless you have a driveline shop do it and make sure it's still balanced

2. Yes it does turn while in 2H

I fixed the picture for you bud.

1. no don't "weld it." Driveshafts need to be balanced or you will have vibes. Can get one from a driveshaft shop or order it from tom woods.

2. yep. the front axle is aways lock with the front driveshaft. When you shift into 4wd The drive shaft is locked with a coupler inside the t-case.

Which part broke? The arrow is pointing at the Double Cardan or CV joint . . . did one of the U-Joints (+ looking things, there are two of them on that end) break or the actual part that the U-Joints fit into? If it just a U-Joint and it didn't damage anything else, then you should be able to just replace the U-Joint, but if something other than the U-Joint broke, then your best bet is to take it to a Drive Line shop and have them fix it and rebalance the shaft.

No the U joints are fine! The bearing or whatever in the middle of the Double Cardan or whatever broke! The ring broke into peices and u can see the Ball in the inside! Ok so do u guys think it would be cheaper to have it rebuilt at a driveline shop or to just buy a salvaged one? Im a full time student and funs are kinda tight at the moment! lol

What year is it? I found it cheaper and easier to just buy a used shaft on my last Jeep. If the u-joint is just broken then replace the joints and call it good. If something needs welded find another shaft.

Most likely a d30 up front and a d35 in the rear. But it may be modded by the pervious owner so picture would help

When I broke mine it was easier and cheaper to buy a used one off Craigs. Make sure the used one is good though, I saw two that had blown out centering pins and one that was bent that people were trying to sell me as "good". Make sure you grease that center pin while you have the shaft off.
