Hey fellus, so I picked up a set of 05 rubi d44s. Unfortunately the po welded the lockers, don't ask me why.... I'm not to worried about the rear being locked but what should I do with the front? I'm think replacing the locker with a carrier and a aussie locker. Through in some 4.88s and use a master install kit to get all the bearings I need. All for $650. If I had the money I would just replace the locker with a new air locker... What do yawl think?

have you ever driven a vehicle with a fully locked rear-end? I have, and it's a nightmare on asphalt. every corner is tires chirping and lots of stress on the axles. If you are only going offroad with this setup I would say no biggie. but if it's spending any time on the road I would fix front and back

I grenaded my rear factory locker and the replacement was $1,000. It's a pretty good guess that the locker was welded and the previous owner was doing a cheap repair. (why else would you weld up a selectable locker??) I replaced mine with an original locker for a variety of reasons, but I wouldn't recommend that route, if you're going to replace the lockers, get a good aftermarket like the OX or ARB. Much more reliable and I believe you can get replacement parts if necessary.

(For the record, mine broke because I had shattered one of the rear axles a year earlier, and apparently did not clean out all the pieces well enough. Something finally floated around and got jammed in the limited-slip gears and bang! You cannot buy replacement parts for the OEM locker, just the entire thing -ouch!)
