Adjustable front track bar

After installing FT 3" lift, I measured the axle from frame to tire on both sides and its 1" more on the drivers side. I have no idea how to adjust the track bar. When I installed it, the directions said to have no more then 4 threads showing and thats where it is at. I drove it to work today and had no problems, only a slight wobble at around 40-45 mph, but nothing drastic. Any ideas on what I should do or how to do it?

It said no more than 4 threads showing,,,to draw the axle over to the passager side the trac bar needs to be shorter so you will then have less than 4 threads showing.With only 4 threads you probably will not have any showing by the time you take it in.

How do I adjust it? do I have to remove the track bar? Only has a locking nut. Seems like a stupid design if you ask me.

easiest way to me is just to drop it from the Frame side, then adjust it in and then using the steering wheel to move things over so you can reinstall in the bracket. Tighten it down and then back the heep up a few feet to get everything in order and make your measurements again.

I think on the FT it is just a single thread conect right?If so yes you will have to loosen the lock nut and disconnect the one end and thread it in and reconnect and tighten the lock nut.To get an inch you will only need a about half an inch shorter.

I dropped the stupid thing, tried to spin it , hits the axle. Tried to get the cotter pin out on the castle nut, but its stuck. Then my only light died, I threw that into the Jeep, cursed for a bit, kicked a cement block, jammed my toe. I give up. This frigging Jeep is gonna be the death of me. now it sits with a half out track bar, 2 dents, boot print on the tire and I cant find my camera. what next.

Suck, but I know how you feel. Which end of the trac bar does the FT adjust at? Should should be able to loosen the jam nut and adjust from the frame end correct?

I thought it would have, but it hits the diff. The cotter pin is flared on the ends so I cant get it out to remove the castle nut to drop it out.

In that case I only see two things that would help you. Either take your hi-lift if you have one and put it under the body and give yourself room to get the nut off and the bar out of the mount. Or see if you can remove it from the axle end and then adjust it that way.

The easiest way to get the correct length for the trackbar so the front axle is centered is this....

Disconnect the axle-end of the trackbar, let the trackbar dangle wherever. Then loosen the lock nut on the trackbar that keeps the threaded-in end snug.

Now, you will be centering the axle underneath the Jeep. This is the easy/fun part. Jump up onto the bumper and cause the suspension to flex up and down. Seriously. The coil suspension springs will tend to self-center the front axle by doing this. You can measure with a tape measure from the fender to the outside of the tire to see if the axle is centered now but understand that so long as it is close, it is not super-critical to be precisely centered. The axle moves left and right on its own as the suspension flexes up and down anyway, you just want it pretty close to being centered.

Once the axle is centered good enough, rotate the trackbar in the direction so the end of it will move in or out so its mounting bushing is lined up exactly with the trackbar bolt's mounting hole at the axle end, on the passenger-side. Then reinsert the bolt and tighten it, youi're done. If you have a 2003 or newer and have a torque-wrench, tighten that bolt to 45 ft-lbs. If it's 2002 or older, tighten the bolt to 55 ft-lbs.

Jerry I've done it that way also, just never on the axle end. I've always dropped them from the frame end. That being said I've also only messed with ones that are using drop brackets. Thanks for walking in to this one. I get so single minded on how we do things to our rigs that are already built that I forget some of the old tricks.

I used ratchet straps to pull it over. Those thing are great, and cheap.

Alright, I got the concept, only problem is, It wont come off on the frame side, I dont have a fork for it, I tried it at the axle side, but cant rotate it. Im at a loss. I guess Ill put it back where it was and live with it.

It won't rotate? Did you loosen the lock nut? If the lock nut will loosen, you can adjust the trackbar's length.

Uh, wait... what size is your lift and what adjustable length trackbar do you have? If your lift isn't very tall, some adjustable length trackbars are long enough that they can't be shortened enough for short suspension lifts. When that happens, you can unscrew the end of the trackbar, cut off an inch or so of the threaded part, then re-insert it so it can be screwed further into the trackbar to make it short enough for a shorter suspension lift height. Easier than it sounds if you have something that will cut some of the length off... or have it trimmed by a shop.

The track bar has a tie rod on the frame side. It has a locking nut which is loose. I cant get the bar off the frame mount. The castle nut is off but the bolt wont come out. I tried taking it off on the axle side, but if I try to rotate the whole track bar, (tie rod end in place) it only goes around half way then hits the diff. Its a 3" lift, poor directions, pita I must say. The piss poor directions said to have no more then 4 threads showing, which I have, but the axle isa over 1" to the drivers side. I manage to center the axle, and I am assuming the track bar needs to be longer since the hole on the axle side is farther away. Im not sure. Im getting really aggravated with this Jeep right now. It rode fine though, just happen to look at it and it looked funny in the front.

forget it. Im just putting it back. Ill try it another time. I was putting my top up before this tstorm rolls in, slammed my tailgate and the spare tire bracket broke off the tailgate. I dont recommend mounting a 33 on a stock bracket now. Unreal.

You don't have to have a fork to get that loose.Take the castle nut off and smack the frame mount a few times with a hammer and the ball joint will fall out.Smack it at the thickest point were the beveled shaft of the joint goes into the frame mount.

Did you measure the rear? If it is also 1" off, then the Jeep is going down the road straight and there's no problem. At least that is what the 4x4 shop told me when I thought I had the same problem. The body may be sitting to one side or the other, and that's ok as long as the rear measures out the same.

Got it all done. Thanks for the tip on that slf41002, worked out good. Thanks for the help guys. Had to cool off for a night, step away from the Jeep. Got it centered, took it for a ride, did the alignment, rides better then stock. Now to fix that tailgate problem.
