My 17 year old son is considering buying a 98 Saraha with 130K miles. The Jeep runs and drives good. There is no floor pan rust and a quarter size rust spot on each front fender. The jeep comes with a light bar, new tires, a hard top, soft top, and a bikini top, and extra mirrors. The seller is firm on $3800.
That's the back story. Here's the real question. What is your opinion of this frame rust? This is the only spot that seems to be a problem. Is this a serious issue? Would you buy it for $3800 or run like the wind the other way?
We are both pretty mechanically savvy but have never owned a Jeep before. Any help is appreciated.

I'd buy it for 2500.
Maybe 3 if you can do the work yourself..
Needs a new frame, that's a ton of work, and if you go that far, you might as well drop in 5k more
Yeah. That frame is shot! The rear upper control arm bracket is about to tear off I'm sure the other side looks similar I wouldn't pay more the 1500. I don't care how good the rest off the jeep is.... As it sits right now. It's a really good parts vehicle!!!
No no no no no no no no. Not worth it in my opinion. You can find a nice wrangler for that price with no frame issues at all. Even if you have to sacrifice all the goodies that come with that one, it just won't be worth it. Buying plain jane means you can customize it your way anyways and they'll be more satisfaction when you get a compliment on your jeep that YOU pieced together, trust me.
