Airbag light 2000 TJ help diagnose it

I have a 2000 Wrangler Se and the airbag light is on. The horn works and I have no other weird dash gremlins. The pass. side on/off switch seems to be working.

Who can diagnose the light? I refuse to pay my dealer $100. to do it. Even though they say that it goes towards the cost of repair.

Any way to get a code out of that light?

Anyway to systematically check the parts that make up the system?

Anyone want to share the Jeep repair manual with me? I had to diagnose an 04 Ford Expedition light recently and the parts guy was nice enough to print out the complete file on diagnose/repair of the SRS system. However, Jeep is not so giving.

Thanks,
Chad

good luck, just about nothing you can do without major computerized equipment. and that $100 diagnosis-they put it on top of the repair and tell you that to make you feel good. my advice, pay a shop to run the codes, and come back to the forum. you should be able to have someone scan the codes for more like $50. very rare nowadays to find helpful people in this business like the guy that printed diag info. go back to them for that vehicle
good luck

Autozone will read a CEL code for free, not sure if this light is different.

Its pretty obvious what it is though, your airbag system needs recharging/repairing. Alot of people think when the light is on its going to explode in their face any second but when the light is on it means that it is NOT going to function.

Does it stay on continuosly? There was a TSB about intermittent Air Bag light illumination, which it involves cleaning the instrument cluster connector terminals.

Hey, thanks guys. jpdocdave, I do love that Ford store. The parts guy is always going out of his way to not only sell me parts but make sure the part I want is faulty and telling me how to be sure.

Auto Zone doesn't have a clue about airbag lights. Pretty sure their little code machine can't do it.

I just received a pm with some manual info in it. Looks like I have some reading to do before breaking out any tools tomorrow. Thanks for the replies. Anyone else have any ideas?

Chad

Oh yeah, and it stays on all the time. And I have no other gremilins either. I have read a lot about weird lights, tachs, and other ailments but I have none of that.

Thanks,
Chad
