Airbag light coming on and off at random times. Anyone had this problem?

Hi. I have had my TJ for about 2 years now and had this problem since I got it. The airbag light comes on and all the gauges go dad when the airbag light comes on. Then after a short period of time the light goes off and the gauges are normal. When I went to get it hooked up to a code reader at the dealership and said the light has to be on. I cant predict when it comes on but seems to usually come on more when the road is bumpy. Nothing major happens when its on just that the gauges all read 0 or like when my Jeep is off. Any help would be appreciated.

My 98 does that periodically.
I have found if I tap the dash under the steering column it goes away. So that tells me it has to be a loose wire somewhere.
So one of these days I'm gonna get under there and take the plugs apart and blow out the dust to see if it helps.

Hilarious that I just asked a question about this same issue that occurred a day or two ago. I hope it is a simple fix...or better yet that it goes away and stays away.

Thank you both for the replies. I will take apart soon and take pics of Everything I do and what I think is causing it.

Yeah it happens for me every once and a while but my switch to turn off the passenger air bag will start to light up for a split second every couple of months. I just smack where it connects to the center console trim and it goes away.

Known, common issue. There are a few threads about it.

Pull the cluster, there are two connectors on the back. Clean the pins (no sandpaper), slightly tweak them so they make a better contact and reassemble.

Repeat every 5 years or so.
