Airbag Replacement after deployment

I have been repairing my 2001 Wrangler Sahara after my accident for a little while now. I have done all the body work and now its time to get the Airbag System up and running again. Only the Driver side went off so I got a new bag, Clockspring and Airbag control module. I put all of this in and the Airbag light still comes on during the start up test. I have a feeling that I might have to take it somewhere to have the code read with a DRBIII scan tool but if you guys have any other ideas I could try I am willing.

Also if I have to get the code read do I have to take it to the Dealer or just a local shop?

Thanks in advance!

You can get the codes yourself by doing the following:

Put the key in the ignition and turn the key to run (not start), then off, then run, then off, then run (that's 3 runs and 2 offs). Leave the key in the run position.

On TJ's with a digital odometer, the code numbers are printed on the odometer in addition to flashing the check engine light. 55 indicates the end of all codes. Once you've got your code list post it back here for more info.

Thanks Jeff,

I have done that before with my CEL but it does not work for the Airbag Light.

Thanks anyway!

I think you are going to have to take it to a dealership. Airbags can be a touchy thing, some you just plug in and your good to go, but I have had some that I had to take to a dealership to get the light off. I cant think of much else to tell you that you havnt already tried.

Problem solved! I noticed that when I would turn the key on the led that is by my passenger airbag switch would not turn on. According to the FSM it states that this is part of the test for the airbag system. I figured I would have nothing to lose but 33 bucks for a new switch. I put the new switch in today and the airbag light went off and STAYED off! I was happy not to have to take it to the dealer. The FSM is worth its weight in gold.

That's why the FSM is better than any of those aftermarker repair manuals.
