Unhappy and so the problems begin

so yesterday while driving home from school my 98 TJ decided to start acting up. the rpms would not go past 2k in every gear, i would get to 2 and it would just sit there until i shifted. i have never had this problem and it stopped doing it today. i am stumped at what this could be, any help is greatly appreciated. it has 160,000mi and is a I6 4.0l manual.

did it sound boggy when you'd give 'er more gas at 2k?

Im wondering if there is one or more fouled spark plugs. Check to make sure your plug wires arn't loose as well... Seems like a symptom of only running on 4-5 cylinders instead of all six.

Hey run out to the jeep- cycle the key on-off-on-off-on within 5 secs and then look at the oddometer --it will start giving you numbers when the number 55 comes up it is done. Tell us the numbers before it tho. I bet you get the number 24 and possibly 12

it is really simple lol. If you start the jeep and it revs to say above 1300 and hangs I am going to put money on it being your throttle position sensor? did the check engine light come on? When mine was going out the light didn't come onto the next day.

out of curiosity, when was the last time your spark plugs were changed?

If it was recently, we can rule them out and go on with testing. If its been quite a while, change 'em before you dig to deep into it. It can't hurt and people always forget that they are designed to fail.

Did you have a massive change in temp from when you parked to when you started it? I would also run some fuel injector cleaner at your next fill up.
