So, I'm convinced my Jeep holds the world record for cracked headers. I've put 25,000 miles on my TJ and gone through 4 headers, it's cracked again. All of them have flex joints. Im thinking of going with an aftermarket header with the thickest gauge tubing I can find and then having the entire exhaust reworked to make sure there is no stress, Im tired of my Jeep sounding like crap. Any other ideas?
Dorman twice, some dude that said his wouldn't crack form new jersey, and one off ebay. It cracked about 500 miles after I put a new one on. I go back and re torque every 100 miles after putting a new one on for 500 miles then once again at 1000 miles. Still crack.
I've had a Borla on my '92 for over 100K mi and it hasn't cracked. Appears to be the same header as the '99, except the crossover pipe on mine goes under the trans instead of around the oil pan.
It doesn't matter. I'm talking about application. The headers for what we are talking about need to have accordion style flex joints. Those headers, along with the borlas header you are talking about, do not have the accordion flex joints, causing cracking in many stock, and after market '99 Tj headers. The fact that he used these flex jointed headers and is still cracking them is what's weird
GUYS he has a body lift and I beat he has the exhast in a bind as the exhast is at one plane and his engine and header 1.5" lower. He needs to take it to a good exhast shop and take all the strain off the header. I beat if you take a sawsall to the pipe in from ot the cat that it will be an inche or better off. A little pipe bending and your problem will go away. Body lifts change everything that attached to the body. Just my 2cents
Sorry, been busy with school and not able to check this. Im going to go have the exhaust rehung completely so we will see how it goes from there.
