Anyone experienced SmartParts NV3550?

All,

I'm looking at a transmission replacement and found SmartParts on Ebay. The reviews are all good, but wondering if anyone here has used them. Their price is better (including shipping and return shipping for core) than what I can get locally, and they are claiming the following:

"This is a new transmission that we have gone into and corrected certain factory flaws witch over time tend to be the main cause of it breaking down. The OEM NV3550 has a problem with hard shifting and jumping out of first and second gear. We have implemented a process here upgraded parts virtually eliminate these flaws. After our upgrade process every transmission is Dyno-Tested to ensure flawless performance out of the box"

Any reason not to do this?
Thanks,
Aaron

I haven't heard of them but pricing seems to be decent for what I have seem.

I've heard the factory 6 speed transmissions are not the best and I see they offer these as well.... so I will be watching this thread to see if anyone chimes in with any good feedback about the company.

Couldn't be happier with the tranny. Unit made it to Cincinnati two days after I ordered. I replaced clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. Transmission has been great so far and the company was great to work with. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a replacement. A transmission company in Cincinnati wanted $2600 to install a rebuilt, and I am in 1150 for this unit with shipping.

Thank you for the update.
I sent them a message about the 6 speed as it is showing out of stock.
They had no eta of when they would have them in stock..... if I ever need mine rebuilt I might consider sending them mine and just leave my Jeep parked until it comes back.

For me, it turned out to be a terrible experience. Very regretful purchase that was a waste of time and money! If you chime back on this thread, I'll give you the details.

Just finished putting in NV3550 from SMART automotive in my 2001, at this point it has 150 miles on it and it's quieter than the last one and it shifts better. The one that came out was still working but the input shaft had 16th inch grooves in pilot surface and input bearing retainer had bad scoring from throw out bearing failure. I never liked the way it sounded so I decided to replace it. They shipped out quickly had it in less than a week. So far so good.

The 3550 I received was noisy (whined) in 1,2,3 and 5th and fell (banged) out of gear when accelerating. To make matters worse, I lost money for the labor charge; having my old trans removed and theirs installed.

My experience w that company was a nightmare, top to bottom. And in fact, is still in the process of being settled. I'll absolutely detail the entire scenario, here, when this debacle is rectified.

OK Let me start by saying that if you’re going to go by EBAY ratings you’re not getting the whole picture, here is why. If you go to their ebay auctions you will notice on certain items it says to contact them before ordering, thus taking the sale out of ebay onto a field where you deal directly with them thus not allowing you to enter negative or for that matter neutral or positive feedback. This is in part what happened to me. I ordered an AX5 trans from them and right from the start I had communications issues, no calls back, no tracking number info etc. I received my AX5 and installed it and less than 100 miles later it started to slip out of 5th gear. I called the tech support people, took me 5 tries and finally spoke with a woman who for the only time in my dealing with this company, she took care of me. With very little questions she sent me another tranny. It’s been well over a month and I have called and been promised that the core charge will be returned and I still don’t have my core charge back that was $200 I don’t know about you but to me that’s a lot of money. I also need to pull the tranny and again……GRRrrrrrrr! If you do a google search for reviews for this company one common thread you will see is that there is a definite lack of phone/customer support after that you will see money issues as a common thread.

I sent them my 32rh to get rebuilt as i am capable of pulling it out and putting it back in myself so i figured it was a good deal. It turned out good for me i would constantly call them for status updates and the lady i talked to was very nice to me. They pick it up from the shop i work at cause comercial shipping was cheaper than residential and they had it shipped back to me in the same day they said they would when i initially called them. I put it back in and bypassed the radiator with an oil cooler from oreillys auto parts. Its been working great for almost a year now so no complaints.

Maybe its a crap shoot. Did you go through Ebay or their direct line? End of the day, the work is done by Blumenthal MFG and they've got mixed reviews. For me it was loss. Because I paid someone else to drop the old trans and install their reman. The biggest kick in the ass was that it was defective from the beginning. Had it worked at some point, I'd be more lenient w my negatory review.

I delt with them directly from smartpartsauto website. What ever phone number was on there. The lady i talked to said she was in Minnesota, and the trans went to get rebuilt in Oklahoma city, Oklahoma.
