I went the other way, 5-speed to an automatic, for better offroad abilities. Why would you want to go from a manual to a 5-speed? For really tough trails, that would be a step backwards. Even the competitors have mostly all converted to automatics by now. Better crawl speeds and 2-3X more low-end torque from an auto.
If I was buying a sportscar like a Porsche, I'd definitely choose a manual tranny but not for a Jeep that sees anything more difficult than an easy fire road.
