Recently, it seems there have been a few threads where people ask about, or theorize on, the exact ratios of the gears in the three manual transmissions offered in 4.0L TJs. Does one particular transmission have an advantage over any other one? I have this information just lying around at home, so now that I finally have a moment I'm going to post it all here.

And now that I think about it, I might as well throw in the AX-5 info as well for the 4-banger crowd. Why leave anyone out? ;) Without further ado, here we go.

AX-5
3.93/2.33/1.45/1.00/0.85 with 4.74 reverse

AX-15
3.83/2.33/1.44/1.00/0.79 with 4.22 reverse

NV3550
4.04/2.33/1.38/1.00/0.78 with 3.75 reverse

NSG370
4.46/2.61/1.72/1.25/1.00/0.84 with 4.06 reverse

Does this information conclusively prove that transmission A is better than transmission B? Not at all. Each model seems to have pros and cons, and whether any one one model is the best will depend on what you are trying to accomplish. So look it over and form your own conclusion.

Perhaps this information can help someone out there. Hopefully, my thread title will make it easy to find via searching in the future.
