axle play.. in the front and transfer case

I had a bad front u joint in the front drive shaft.. when i was messing with it i noticed i have a lot of up and down play in the front diff the flange where the drive shaft bolts moves up and down.. and the end on the transfer case mount moves up and down a little too.. do i have worn out bearings? or is that normal?

So when you are doing this does the whole yoke move up and down on both the TCase and the Axle? If so then the yoke nuts are loose and that can cause not good things. Inch and an 1/8th I believe.

If the yokes don't move, but the drive shaft still has that kind of play in it then I'd say it's your centering ball going back on your CV.

Hmmm, have you done anything with your front diff lately? New gears, etc....? Can it be pushed/pulled in/out with teh driveshaft removed? I'm thinking possibly a bad bearing or crush sleeve.

Do like you said and try tightening it down snug first and see if that keeps it tight. Might put a little red loctite on the nut and put it back on again.

ya its bearing related.. no all stock just got the jeep 160000... guessing its worn out.. there is up and down movement in the shaft on the front dif.. the transfercase looks to be just the flange and not the shaft so it might need to be tighted.. looks like i need new bearings and crush sleeve in the front diff though
