Axle Questions

I got my build sheet form Chrysler. As I thought when we bought the TJ new in 2002 we got a Dana 44 in the rear and a Dana 30 in the front. It has the 5spd and 3.73 gearing now. I am only running 31's so those gears work. Now that it is paid off and becoming less of a daily driver, I am planning on the Body and Suspension lifts and want to run 34's. From what I see to do it right I should rebuild the axles with 4.56 gears. My question is for mostly playing in the Mud/Trail running an driving around would this be a good choice? Also should I consider swapping out the front axle from the 30 to a 44 or maybe something else like a Cherokee front with the higher pumpkin offset? From what I have read the 30 is a decent axle and I won't be doing anything super hardcore, so maybe it will be fine for my amatuaer mud pit playing?

Your d30 woul dmost likely be fine. I run a ford 8.8 out back and a d30 in the front with 35's and stock shafts and i'm good. It's not locked. If you truss a d30 with a locker and chromo shafts it can do some amazing things.

Your Dana 30/44 axles are fine up to 35" tires. I don't recall ever seeing a 34" tire, what is it?

With you having a 5 speed you would want to go with 4.88 not 4.56.
