axle seals

I broke the little black axle seal, has anyone put those 70 dollar seals on their jeeps is it worth it? Is it a big deal is it if the seal is not completely there i just broke the side off.

good lord they are $70!? I am swapping my axles after christmas and figured I'd replace them for piece of mind but I am not sure now, was that the dealer price?

I am not sure how big of a deal they are but the thought is to keep stuff out of there. Probably be fine but never know for sure

The 70$ ones are aftermarket i saw them in 4wheel parts or some place. Is there also a inner seal

I didn't pay $70, but I do have those nice outer seals from Alloy. I figure they are worth the small investment if you run through lots of water or sand.

That big plastic piece that broke is really only to keep big chunks of debris out of the inside of the axle tube, it isn't an oil seal by any stretch of the imagination. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it unless you are into wheeling in deep mud and you don't want mud filling the axle tube.
