Axle Swap

Can anyone give me an idea of how much time is involved in an axle swap? I've got a set of G2 D44's sitting in crates, waiting to be installed.

are they a direct replacement? are all the controll arm, shock tabs and coil buckets in the same spot. If so then its not too bad at all, could probaly get it done in 8-10 hours. Is the yolk the same, is the new axle pinion longer/shorter if so you might have to shorten the drive shafts. E brakes cable brackets? basically if its ready to go then 8-10 hours for the average weekend warrior, or possibly 2 or 3 days if you need to do alot of modifications.

A rear axle can be swapped in 90 minutes if you just bolt your existing brakes onto the new axle without disconnecting the brake lines. Less than 90 minutes with air tools, a good floor jack, and a friend to help keep the axle balanced on the jack.

The front is probably an all morning or all afternoon job... but both are doable in a day.

Throw em in your pickup and bring em over, I'll show ya how to do it. :P
Seriously if they are direct bolt in, can be easily done in a day.

As long as your bolts aren't rusty your looking at 4-5 hours on both if you know what your doing. Rear is pretty dang easy.

Thanks for the info, guys. They're NIB, G2 D44's for a TJ....4.56 gears, rear disks, and E-Lockers. I've already got a SYE and new driveshaft installed. I'm wondering if the driveshaft will have to be shortened.....

The driveshafts may need to be shortened an inch, the yoke on a D44 sits about an inch further out. But you may be ok if you have more lift than when you measured for them... or if each driveshaft still has enough of the splined area so they can compress enough. Do a test fit & just see if there is still sufficient spline length left for them to compress enough.
